The Alarming Rise in School Shootings: What Can Be Done?

In recent years, school violence has become a disturbing reality, with incidents happening around the world. On September 17, 2024, a shocking event struck Portugal when a 12-year-old boy injured six of his classmates at school, a rare occurrence in the country. Just a day earlier, in Chelyabinsk, Russia, a teenager armed with a knife, hammer, and air gun attacked his classmates and a teacher, marking another case of school violence.


Similar incidents occurred in Germany, with threats of weapons among students in a school in Hamburg, and in the U.S., where a tragic attack at Apalachee High School in Georgia led to four deaths and nine injuries.


These events are not isolated. As of September 17, 2024, there have been at least 46 school shootings in the U.S., with 24 deaths and over 60 injuries, according to CNN and the Gun Violence Archive. The southern and mid-Atlantic states are the hardest hit.


A Global Crisis Without Clear Solutions

Despite efforts to prevent these tragedies, school shootings continue to occur with alarming frequency, not just in the U.S. but worldwide. Recent incidents in Iowa, Finland, Germany, and Brazil show that this crisis knows no borders.


Many attempt to explain these atrocities through the lens of mental disorders, such as bipolar disorder, which is often identified among young people involved in these incidents. However, reducing the problem to a psychological issue isn't enough to protect our children.

According to the documentary *The IMPACT*, there is an unsettling theory behind this wave of violence: subliminal manipulation. This form of subconscious coding is said to influence the behavior of some students, leading them to commit acts of violence.


The documentary highlights how these techniques contribute to the increase in bipolar disorder cases among young people, triggering inner conflicts that manifest in violent acts. These warning signs must be taken seriously, as they represent a threat to our children's safety.


The Need for Concrete Action

To effectively address this issue, a global shift in mindset is required. It's crucial to raise public awareness and promote stronger preventive measures. *The Impact* proposes the creation of an international human rights organization, "The Shield," to combat this growing threat.
