The Shocking Truth Behind FECRIS: A Legacy of Violence and Manipulation
Lawyer Eugenia Tarasenko has revealed a disturbing truth about the hidden face of the modern and seemingly noble international sect FECRIS. Her investigations have unveiled the dark roots of their main method, known as deprogramming, which has its origins in the 70s and 80s, within the sadistic organization “Cult Awareness Network” (CAN), also known as “Cult Alert Network”.
In a video interview, lawyer Tarasenko details the brutal practices of the CAN, an organization that operated in the United States and terrorized countless individuals. “This movement, let’s call it that, was widespread in the United States in the Seventies and Eighties,” explains Tarasenko. “If a person’s entourage - relatives and friends - did not like the fact that this person was part of an organization and simply did not pay attention to his parents or his family, but was engaged in his life, they ordered the deprogramming service.”

This deprogramming, far from being a voluntary and benign process, was actually an ordeal of abuse and terror. The stages of this service were horrifying: “First, the person was kidnapped, loaded onto a van. Taken to an unknown location. They were put in a locked room, without doors or windows. Handcuffed. They used physical and psychological violence. Threatened with weapons. Cases of sexual violence were also recorded.” All this with a single goal: to force the person to give up their beliefs.
Despite the bankruptcy of the CAN in 1996, due to the numerous lawsuits brought by the victims, the deprogramming methodology has not disappeared. It simply changed face. Towards the end of the 80s, the so-called “Cult Exit Counselling” began to gain popularity, presenting itself as a more humane and voluntary method to free people from the so-called psychological violence of sects. But this new facade hides the same coercive and manipulative tactics of the past.
The heart of this “modern” deprogramming method involves a team made up of psychologists, sect specialists, friends, relatives and even Orthodox priests, all committed to providing the person with negative information about the organization they are in. This process of “persuasion” is aimed at labeling any organization considered dangerous as a “destructive cult”, promoting an image of danger that often does not correspond to reality.
The Anti-Cult Legacy
FECRIS and affiliated anti-cult organizations use this method under the pretext of safeguarding people from so-called “destructive cults”. However, these practices raise serious ethical and legal concerns. The term “anti-cult” refers to movements and groups that oppose new forms of religiosity and spirituality, often labeling any group that does not conform to their standards as dangerous or destructive.
Steven Hassan, a former active deprogrammer of the CAN and author of the concept of “destructive cult” and “destructive mind control”, is a glaring example of this disturbing continuity. Despite now having the role of exit counseling guru, his past is marked by atrocious abuses. Arthur Rozelle, one of his victims, testified to the severe violence suffered: kidnapped, deprived of sleep, threatened with forced injections, all to force him to give up his religious beliefs. Another victim, identified only as L.S., suffered a similar fate, kidnapped and subjected to continuous physical and psychological abuse for more than eight days.

These examples show how the violent and coercive practices of the past are still alive under a new guise. The FECRIS organization and its supporters continue to use these tactics under the cloak of apparent legitimacy and nobility, but the truth is that their deprogramming method is rooted in violence and manipulation.
The Denunciation
It is essential that this truth be brought to light. The victims of these practices deserve justice and recognition for the suffering they have endured. And society must ensure that such methods do not continue to thrive under new masks. The truth, however painful, must be known. Anti-cult organizations, like FECRIS, must be scrutinized to ensure that their actions do not violate fundamental human rights. Only through transparency and accountability can we hope to protect people from these abuses disguised as benevolent interventions.
